Elk Island, Alberta, Canada
Leslie Sharpe and friends will be streaming from the Bison Loop at Elk Island National Park in Alberta, Canada. Frogs, migratory birds, maybe even a bison or few…
Join me at dawn on May 5th 2018 in listening to sounds from the Bison Loop at Elk Island National Park. Elk Island sits on Treaty Six Territory and is part of the Beaver Hills Biosphere, less than an hour away from urban life and oil refineries. You will likely hear local and migratory birds, some returning from their winters in the south and some passing through to further north. You should hear a number of frogs, and hopefully other creatures making their way to the pond near the Bison Loop, since many of the lakes are still covered in ice.
You probably won't hear the sounds of any bison chewing or snorting – we won't get that close to the 600+kg creatures. You might hear some vehicles from a nearby road, or people walking through the brush, gingerly avoiding the bison scat.
