A live open microphone from a rural property in Tiny Township, Ontario, half a kilometre inland from the southern shore of Georgian Bay. Streamed by Anton Pickard, a sound artist working with field recording and live electronics. The stream captures woodland and rural soundscape with the occasional distant presence of the bay.
Tiny Township sits on the southern shore of Georgian Bay, part of Lake Huron — one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the world. This stream comes from a rural property set half a kilometre inland from the shoreline, in a landscape of mixed boreal and deciduous woodland typical of the southern Georgian Bay region in Simcoe County, Ontario.

In early May this area is at the peak of spring bird migration. Returning warblers, thrushes, white-throated sparrows and loons are among the species likely present at dawn. The soundscape is shaped by the woodland edge, open rural land, and the proximity of the bay — close enough that wind off the water and distant wave sound are occasionally present, but far enough that the dominant character is the quiet of a spring morning.

The stream is unmediated — no processing or intervention, simply the place at daybreak. Anton PIckard is a sound artist based in Tiny Township developing a practice around field recording, contact microphones and found sound in the Georgian Bay region.
