In partnership with For Cities, a studio based in Tokyo, CLUSTER did a Sound Mapping Workshop recording interesting sounds of the bustling streets of Ard al-Liwa, one of Cairo's largest informal neighborhoods.
The streaming will be from the balcony of Cluster's studio in Al-Agouza neighborhood. Al-Agouza is one of the old neighborhoods in the heart of Giza Governorate, Egypt. Al-Agouza, which translates to "The Old Lady", is named after one of its earliest residents, Nazly Suleiman who lived in this neighborhood till her 90s. The streaming will portray Abd El-Azeem Rashid Street's dynamic activity of its residents and passersby. A few of the familiar sounds to this street are the local bread sellers, the vegetable and fruit vendors, the residents yelling at those vendors, the car honks, the call to prayers 5 times a day, and some other interesting sounds.
