Evraiko Nekrotafio (Bet Chaim Jewish Cemetery)
The Ioannina Jewish Cemetery which is a designated protected historic site, is perhaps one of the most significant sources of oxygen in the city. The 6,000 sq. m. site which hosts gravestones dating from the early 15th century, consists of high trees and is protected by a surrounding stone wall. In Hebrew "Bet Chaim" stands for "House of Life". The name given has a logical explanation since the gravestones from subsequent cemeteries have been collected and housed at this location. Various types of animals reside in this full of high pine trees untended site, creating a rich natural sonic environment.
