An ancient mixed woodland.
White’s Wood is an ancient broadleaf and coppice woodland, which lies just at the base of Aldington Ridge along which runs the Saxon Shore Way. The woodland clothes the ridge densely, and separates the ridge from the mostly arable fields above, and those of the Romney Marsh stretching out below.Flush with wood anemones, bluebells and various interesting orchids, this wood has been largely untouched for many years, so has developed a diverse ecosystem supporting many varieties of birds, insects, small and large mammals. Now owned by Led by the Wild, parts of it are being coppiced, and an area is used as a woodland school, and for workshops and events with nature. When we last broadcast from there as a Soundcamp in 2024, an astonishing 30 different birds were identified from their songs. Will there be as many this year?
