Campus garden at Glasgow School of Art, Highlands & Islands Campus, on the Altyre Estate in Forres, Morayshire, Scotland. The garden is bordered by woodland and is home to many typical British/European garden birds (Finches, Tits, Thrush, Wren, Blackbird etc) as well as Great Spotted Woodpecker, Yellowhammer, Siskin, Whitethroat, Treecreeper, Blackcap, Redstart, Willow Warbler, Skylark and Goldcrest. Buzzards are common, and Ospreys are resident during the summer months along with House Martins, Swifts and Swallows. Jackdaws and Jays represent the corvids. Some of the local Pheasants will almost certainly put in an appearance with their unmistakable screech. Being close to the coast we get occasional Oystercatchers. There's a pond nearby with Mallard ducks, Coots and a breeding pair of Mute Swans. Other wildlife that may or may not be audible includes Red Squirrels, Pine Martins and Brown Hares — all protected species. We're on a working estate so there may also be farm machinery or construction sounds. The forecast is windy, so there will probably be wind in the leaves of adjacent sycamore trees. Rain will be loud as the rig is under a metal roof. Rig: Raspberry Pi Zero 2W running streambox 4.0 (Archlinux) with IQaudio hat, pair of electret condenser microphones (PUI). The stream is going out as 48kHz, 16-bit, stereo. Many thanks to Grant Smith and Mort Drew at Soundcamp Cooperative for technical advice and for supplying the microphones. |
