Sounding Urban Places (SoundUP) is an interdisciplinary arts-based research project, building on community engagement in data collection and artistic co-creation with a focus on sound. In addition to streaming, we use other tools such as a participative online soundmap https://soundupmap.com/ and the audio-walk app Tracks: https://tracksaudiowalks.org/ This research project takes place in the framework of Horizon 2020 and JPI Urban Europe and is co-funded in 2024-2025 by Regieorgaan SIA, part of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). The research focusses on two urban environments in full transformation: the city of Kiruna in Sweden, and the Binckhorst area in The Hague. The research team focusing on the Binckhorst area consists of Justin Bennett (Royal Conservatoire, Sonology), Irene Ruiz Perez Canales (Royal Conservatoire, Sonology), Renate Zentschnig (Soundtrackcity), Marcel Cobussen (Leiden University), and Paul Craenen (Royal Conservatoire, lector). Sound Up is a collaboration between Luleå University of Technology (main applicant), Royal Conservatoire The Hague (co-applicant), Leiden University, Soundtrackcity, I'm Binck, and Kluster. |
