A Sound Camp for students of the Estonian Academy of Arts will be held in the Ahja River valley near Taevaskoja from Saturday to Sunday, May 3rd and 4th. The camp is by a double-arched stone bridge that crosses the river and is surrounded by a patchwork of mixed forest and cultivated farmland.

Each year we try to find a unique location to stream from in order to address soundscapes from environments. This year we will be based in the Kiidjärve-Kooraste nature reserve in south Estonia. The reserve follows the Ahja river through a shallow valley with sandstone cliffs, boreal forests and small flood plains.
John Grzinich (MoKS) will be leading the Sound Camp workshops and conducting the Reveil stream in collaboration with professors Sten Saarits (EKA New Media) and Bruno Quast (EKA Animation). Our emphasis is to understand and experience the dawn chorus phenomenon, identifying some of the natural sounds and species and become familiar with the possibilities of field recording and remote streaming technology. |
