Welcome to Park De Vijvers ('The Ponds') in Ledeberg, a diverse and densely populated neighbourhood in Ghent, Belgium. The park, which shares its name with a nursing home, is surrounded by busy streets, motorways and a viaduct notorious for the rhythmical ta-doomph, ta-doomph it emits all through the area. As an urban green lung, Park De Vijvers combines grass fields and forest areas surrounding two ponds. The area is inhabited by birds, teenagers, ducks, families, geese, elderly people, children enjoying the playground, dogs, insects and other creatures of Ledeberg. It is one of my favourite spots in Ghent, where various kinds of'biophony' sound in counterpoint with the ubiquitous 'technophony' of traffic noise. I addition to the occasional live stream, I share field recordings from the neighbourhood via @9050_hz on Instagram.
