The allotment is quite wild and very biodiverse. It functions as a refugium for plants and animals who do not stand a chance in the surrounding areas dominated by human infrastructure, agro-industrial desertification and urbanisation. The allotment garden community borders at the Amsterdam-Rijn canal, one of the busiest ship routes in the Netherlands. At the other side is a vast planned (man-made) nature area that suffers from artificially maintained low groundwater level and excessive nitrogen deposit.
