Kelly Markovich is a multidisciplinary artist. This project represents her ongoing interest in the acoustics of ecology and the sounds of wildlife.
Dartmouth is located on the eastern shore of Halifax Harbour in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. Known for it's plentiful and diverse ecosystems, Dartmouth has been nicknamed the City of Lakes, after the large number of lakes located within its boundaries.
Kelly Markovich is a multidisciplinary artist living in Dartmouth, whose art practice is exploratory in nature. Within her work elements that combine found, domestic, and built objects, story, sound, photography, and drawing are used as a means of disrupting convention and to create tension.
For this work, recordings from nature are being incorporated into a sound-art project that uses sound ecology to examine acoustic relationships between living organisms, human and non-human, and their connections with the environment.
