Trial Run - Shotley Gate 5:59am 9th April 2023 - Matthew Shenton
River Stour, Shotley Peninsula, Suffolk, UK
The broadcast will be from the bank of the river Stour on the Shotley Peninsula in Suffolk UK. Hopefully there will be the sound of seabirds from the river and birdsong from the woodlands that line the banks. There is also the possibility of hearing marine traffic and the industrial sounds from the Port of Felixstowe and Harwich Harbour.
Saturday 6th May update: have switched to using IziCast due to the server issues. Hopefully it works!
The rivers Stour and Orwell meet at Shotley Gate and merge to join with the North Sea in Harwich Harbour. The Stour and Orwell is a designated Special Protection Area, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Ramsar site for wetland habitats.
The landscape is predominantly ancient estate farmlands, with salt marshes and intertidal mudflats. The mudflats are an important winter feeding area for estuary birds, wild fowl and waders.
Between 1906 and 1918 the Shotley Peninsula saw the last outbreak of plague in England…
