The Beavertail Lighthouse & Museum is located on the southern tip of the Beavertail, a peninsula of Conanicut Island at the mouth of Narragansett Bay in the state of Rhode Island, USA. Built in 1749, the lighthouse is the 3rd oldest in the USA, and is still active.
The lighthouse features a foghorn that operates automatically, depending on visibility conditions in the Bay. With luck, we will hear it during the stream. A bell buoy is also audible over the sound of surf. A thicket of trees behind the Lighthouse property may bring us sounds of Red-Winged Blackbirds. We also expect the presence of seabirds including several species of gulls and terns. *In spite of the name, Rhode Island is not an island itself, but it contains many islands in its bay. |
