I will be streaming with a north-facing H1n and iPhone8 with LocusCast from the back of my home on Ontario Highway 62 just outside the village of Maynooth, Municipality of Hastings Highlands, in the granite highlands just south of Algonquin Provincial Park on unceded Algonquin Anishinaabe Territory. Birds that might be heard include Downy, Hairy and Pileated Woodpeckers, different Sparrows, Blue Jay, Common Raven, Pine Siskin, American Goldfinch and Black-capped Chickadee. The windchime is a Woodstock Chimes of Earth tuned to the pentatonic scale. Traffic in front of the house includes resource extraction trucks carrying logs and aggregates. This region is in the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Forest zone (Boreal Hardwood Forest Transition) dominated by hardwood with a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees such as maples, birches, hemlock and red and white pine and spruce. This area was clear cut about 120 years ago, cut again 50 years ago and the patch of woods behind my house is typical of mostly weedy second growth forest but has some nice balsam fir. The house was built in 1965. Elevation is 430m and at sunrise in early May the temperature will likely be about 8°C. The photo is of the site taken at sunrise April 14/2024.
