Back yard in South London. Bio social sounds including aircraft, birds, weather, construction, people in surrounding houses and gardens.
The stream has been running more or less continously since 2011. Listening to the yard through the stream has been the basis of writing, thinking and study. This in turn has affected management of the yard, towards a semi wild area / opportunistic woodland, attracting communities of locally rare and threatened birds (sparrows, startlings) and insects.
Variations in the soundworld through the seasons and through day and night feature a quite dense or congested set of overlays, interferences, intereractions, which the streambox conveys with a characteristic flatness.
Together with tactics of gardening and neglect, the streambox can be imagined as a lure or catalyst for the assembly of a diverse set of organisms and agencies, and or as a public witness and an entity in its own right.
