Drifting on the tidal Thames around the Rotherhithe peninsula

The subaquatic sounds of the tidal Thames starting from Upper Pool to Limehouse Reach.
On a low ebbing tide, the sounds of the river will be streamed from hydrophones and a mobile streambox drifting, with me, in my kayak.
With grateful thanks to Grant Smith and Mort Drew for their expertise and patience and to Ruth Keating for the beautiful photo.
The Rotherhithe peninsula sits just to the west of its visually overbearing, northshore neighbour the Isle of Dogs. Weather conditions permitting, I will launch in the small hours of Sunday from Bermondsey Beach and, as dawn breaks and on the ebb tide, drift slowly downstream towards Deptford and Greenwich. Low tide will be at around 06.10 so I will be drifting for the last third of the tide.

My streambox comprises a Pi Zero and IQ Audio card with a 3G transmitter powered via a rechargeable Anker Li-ion battery. The components live in a waterproof case which will sit on the deck of my kayak.

Using a pair of Aquabeat hydrophones I will dowse the sounds from beneath the waves as the city awakens. I would expect to hear marine traffic including PLA pilotage craft and perhaps the vessels of the River Police but we may just encounter some of the fauna of the tidal Thames from crustaceans to cetaceans. A lucky dip.
