Tromsø, Norway Arctic Auditories – Hydrospheres in the High North
Latitude: +69.65228011424969°
The Streambox is on top of the Polarmuseum and streams sounds of kittiwakes and other birds, water, various boats, wind, traffic, sauna goers, workers, general public and museum visitors. The museum is situated in a historic wooden building, once the customs warehouse that was built in 1830, painted red with a sloping tiled roof, it stands next to the wooden piers of the harbour.
The project Arctic Auditories – Hydrospheres in the High North is funded by the Research Council of Norway and engages diverse methods to develop strategies for understanding environmental change in the North of Sapmi, in Romssa/Tromsø. Focusing on water environments, we seek to learn with local participants how they experience their place through sounds. |
Arctic Auditories is a cooperation of local participants from Romssa/Tromsø with Angus Carlyle, Britta Sweers, Elizabeth Barron, Silje Gaupseth, Paula Ryggvik Mikalsen, and Katrin Losleben. The sea and weather conditions can be viewed on this webcam, which is pointed towards new residential developments on reclaimed land. The Polarmuseum is just out of the left-hand side of the frame.
