Drigg Dunes, Cumbria, UK RL Wilson
Latitude: +54.3643677804415°
If the conditions are right, this portable streambox will be situated near the ponds of the natterjack toads; to be heard after the sun sets. Otherwise it will be situated across the river, where a fuller, dynamic sound can be heard all day.
Built, run, and supported by RL Wilson, Soundcamp, RE Drift, and Full of Noises as part of the Acoustic Commons network. |
Situated on a nature reserve within the sand dune complex at Drigg, next to the Irish Sea and beneath the highest mountains in Engand; a sound of sounds, an estuary of acoustics resonate. Here lie rare Natterjack Toads in full chorus after dusk. Skylarks, Stonechats, Crickets as well as many wading birds such as the Oystercatcher and the endagered Curlew are at play. Barnacle, Pink-footed and Canada Geese, sheep, cows, bees, and the odd badger, can be heard amongst the passing mainline train, the toots of the'La'al' Ratty steam train, and the agriclutural machinery, nestle alongside the shells firing from the local Eskmeals firing range. A treat for long-form listeners.
