A rocky high desert landscape with sparse shrubs (primarily juniper and Mojave yucca) in the newly-expanded Quail Wash area of Joshua Tree National Park. Recordists Nathan and Victoria Snider.
It is a rugged landscape, but special to many. Sheltered beneath some rocks nearby, there are still some pieces of pottery in the style of the native Cahuilla Indians. Thanks in great part to the work of the Mojave Desert Land Trust, the land has been conserved and is being incorporated into Joshua Tree National Park.
I've uploaded a 20-minute recording covering the time of the Reveil 2026 stream. Most prominently featured are Mourning Doves, Black-throated Sparrows and Bewick's Wrens. A few Ravens and Gambel's Quail can also be heard in the background.
