Mangatangi Paa

Latitude: -37.201°

Mangatangi Marae sits in the Mangatangi Valley of Waikato, New Zealand, nestled between rolling farmland, rivers, and the bush edges of the Hunua Ranges.
Within this rich natural landscape, the sounds of local manu are ever-present kererū moving through the treetops, tūī and pīwakawaka active in the ngahere, and wetland species such as pūkeko and seasonal waterbirds near nearby waterways. At dusk, the call of ruru may also be heard, grounding the marae in a living environment where culture and nature remain deeply connected.

Mangatangi Marae is a living tūrangawaewae where whānau gather for hui, tangihanga, pōwhiri, weddings, and wānanga. It hosts noho marae, cultural learning, and community kaupapa, including Poukai linked to the Kīngitanga. Grounded in tikanga traditional protocol, the marae supports connection, remembrance, celebration, and decision-making for Ngāti Tamaoho and Ngāti Koheriki.
