This year one of the two radio.earth mobilemics managed by Soundtrackcity is again at an allotment garden complex at a dead end road near the tiny village Driemond south of Amsterdam. The other mobilemic is at an allotment garden complex in Berlin.

The allotment is managed ecologically, there are vegetable gardens and much space has been left for rewilding. Because the allotment is quite wild the biodiversity is high. It functions as a refugium for plants and animals who do not stand a chance in the surroundings dominated by high speed traffic, infrastructure, agro-industrial desertification and urbanisation. The allotment garden community borders at the Amsterdam-Rijn canal, one of the busiest ship routes in the Netherlands. At the other side are agriculture and recreational areas that suffer from artificially maintained low groundwater level and excessive nitrogen deposit. Due to the expected increase in electricity demand from data centers around Amsterdam, a high-voltage transformer site is planned nearby, which will result in yet another deep hum. |
