(*) alfa00 is exploring purely “here and now” approach in relationship of sound entity sonoent00 with environment. This project is focused on the practice as transient ever-evolving end-product, sort of “sound journal”. Up to date it contains almost 1200 releases averaging 3 hours of duration each. I am using the immediate surrounding sound environment as interface for connecting with “the rest of the world”, the reality. I am playing almost every day, mostly at night - as I am (Slavek Kwi) rather nocturnal creature - when is more quiet. I am fortunate to have little studio just aside the house so I may play without disturbing anyone. However, I am playing mainly with headphones to hear everything in great detail, it helps me to listen in higher concentration. I have various sound-devices and microphones in the garden, it picks up sounds and vibrations of surrounding environment, it works like giant sensor trying to connect with the world around. I am listening from inside studio and playing with “it”. The surrounding sound world is my orchestra. My contribution is not heard outside, the surrounding reality is intact of interference. I am trying to find “my place” in “it”. The same - absolutely equal as every participating particle of human, animal or weather origin or any other entity. How to be together in balanced, harmonious way? How to recognize “our place”? Is it possible? What are conditions of constructive relationships in between “strangers”? Can it be explored within specifically designed framework? Can our love and passion for “music” (whatsoever it is), arts and the most importantly: joy of “listening” help to find a way to each other? I have impression we may be able to create conditions - good compost - where the connection is being “grown” and cultivated.
Bio - About “I”:
Slavek Kwi is humanoid avatar of sonic-entity alfa00 (aka sonoent00) in the role of sound-artist, music composer, educator and researcher interested in the phenomena of perception as the fundamental determinant of relations with reality. He has a long-standing fascination with sound-environment, developing what he terms ‘sound-paintings’ (he has synaesthesia) that oscillate between sound only works and interdisciplinary works exploring social, spatial and temporal processes.
“I am using the abstract possibilities of art to expand the meaning of this perceived reality”.
From the early nineties Slavek has operated under moniker of Artificial Memory Trace
(artificialmemorytrace.bandcamp.com). Then, gradually Kwi evolved into disembodied and genderless sound-entity alfa00 (aka sonoent00) (alfa00.bandcamp.com)
In 2020 Kwi founded 1st Free Sounds Sanctuary as part of Mountshannon Arts Festival
(soundctuary.bandcamp.com), claiming and freeing segment of land and underwater realm of Lough Derg, Eastern Clare, Atlantic side of Ireland.
In early 80ties Kwi co-founded with Jaroslav Palát short-lived noise-formation Quarantaine.
Nowadays Kwi work is focused on deep listening, non-verbal communication and education via abstraction. Slavek is involved in Creative Schools, a project of Arts Council of Ireland, he may be spotted undercover as Creative Associate or Alien Intelligence Agent in numerous schools in Clare and surrounding counties in Ireland.
