Holgrove Wood is a dense tract of woodlands interspersed with open field and scrub brush. The habitat is lively with many species of birds including European Greenfinch, Eurasian Wrens, Blue Tit, Chiffchaff, Green Woodpecker, and Tawny Owls. A Tawny Owl has been heard in a call and response in and around the village of Ardingly. 


Holgrove Wood as named dates back to the 13th Century as the earlier place name surrounding the village of Ardingly, not far from Kew Gardens, Wakehurst. It is a dense tract of woodlands interspersed with open field and scrub brush. The habitat is lively with many species of birds including European Greenfinch, Eurasian Wrens, Blue Tit, Chiffchaff, Green Woodpecker, and Tawny Owls.
