"On the site of the Floating University, the rainwater collection basin serving the former Tempelhof airfield, a diverse range of animals, plants and algae have taken root and given birth to a unique landscape: a human-made environment reclaimed by nature where polluted water coexists with the relatively new presence of the University, forming a natureculture (Haraway) or a third landscape (Clément)." https://floating-berlin.org/site/

We have installed a streambox near one of the drainage outlets where rainwater from the Tempelhof Airport building, the airfield and Columbiadamm road meets another body of water: the basinwater. Here, the rainwater retention basin becomes a threshold of listening. Water moves and gathers; wind threads through the grasses; nightingales and great tits call across the air. Frogs sound from hidden edges (their species still unknown to us), insects hum close to the ear, and human voices drift in and out of the field … woven into the chorus, rooted in the place. |
