Island of Brienenoord, Rotterdam Buitenplaats, Island of Brienenoord
Latitude: +51.8986650651021°
Van Brienenoord Island is is a partially forested tidal park, an island in the New Maas river in Rotterdam. It was formed at the beginning of the 19th century by the silting up of a sandbank and owes its name to Baron Van Brienen of the Groote Lindt family, who bought it in 1847.
It is home to many birds, four highland cattle, a beaver, and countless other species. Its hospitable resources include a small pond (toads have bred there in former years). The streambox is set up beside this small pond, a relatively open space where the dawn chorus is often very beautiful. |
